The Challenge: As the numbers of volunteer firefighters across the nation has decreased, many departments that rely on volunteers have struggled. Marion County Fire District #1 received a grant to promote their volunteer program. My task was to create materials that inspired people to volunteer, encouraged them to look into the program, highlighted the benefits and perks of volunteering, and help people realize that there are many types of volunteers.
The Project: I worked on this project remotely, so the photos were taken by a photographer and then sent to me. The campaign materials featured close-up photos of volunteers to draw attention to the people, not the profession. The goal was that maybe a passerby might recognize that volunteer as their neighbor or coworker, and then perhaps they will think, “If they can do that, then so can I!” The black/red color motif matches with the colors of other marketing materials for the fire district.
The Outcome: The campaign made use of various platforms, including digital marketing, print ads, billboard, flyers, posters, and a mailing. The consistent look with the materials helped with recognition.
