The Challenge: By focusing on “Areas of Study,” students can pursue courses based on the topics they are interested in before deciding on a major or career path. The videos advertising Peninsula College’s seven areas of study were very outdated. They used still photographs and dialogue with no subtitles, and many of the “career opportunities” listed for each field would have required highly advanced degrees. The goal was to update the videos with video footage, stronger graphics, and more degree-appropriate career opportunities. Since many people watch videos on their phone with the volume muted, the video’s message needed to be understand without sound.
The Project: This project focuses on the Arts and Communication Area of Study. Additional videos in the series maintained the same template, while updating the colors and icon to reflect the brand of each particular Area of Study. Video footage had been captured by a vendor videographer for a separate campaign, and I edited the footage for this new project. My work included storyboarding, writing, and editing.
The Outcome: The finished video series was shared on social media and then featured on the college’s website and YouTube channel. The new videos are more engaging with a younger audience and the energy still comes though even if the sound is muted.
