Shepherd Shield Website and Mobile App

The Challenge

Shepherd Shield is a mobile personal security app that helps users stay aware of threats through emergency alerts, threat maps, real-time location sharing, and customizable safety features. The app was initially launched in 2017, but over time the app’s visual design and interface had become dated and static. The result was a passive experience that offered limited engagement. Users had few ways to interact with information or share it with friends/family during critical moments. Shepherd Shield needed a refreshed design with stronger engagement tools.

To complement the app relaunch, Shepherd Shield also required a stronger digital presence. The updated website needed to:

  • Highlight the app’s key features.
  • Showcase visuals and screenshots of the app in use.
  • Encourage users to download the app.
  • Attract businesses to advertise on the platform.
  • Be responsive across all devices.

The Project

App Redesign: The app redesign focused on creating a modern, intuitive, and engaging user experience. Visual updates included a new interface, improved graphics, and ease of use for understanding and acting on safety information.

Website Redesign: The new website was developed on WordPress, which was selected for its extensive library of features, user-friendly updating process, and scalability. Fresh mockups highlighted the app’s new and core features.

A new, simpler domain – www.ShepherdShield.com – was obtained to replace the previous www.ShepherdShieldApp.com. This change made the website more memorable and would improve searches.

The website’s user experience was updated, providing users with quick access to information and visuals about the app. The logo was refined to add a more polished touch while maintaining the original brand identity.

The Outcome

The project set Shepherd Shield as a proactive personal security solution. The redesigned website played a critical role in the successful reintroduction of the app. The website launched ahead of the app’s release, building anticipation with teaser content that informed users of the upcoming changes.

  • User engagement on the website increased, with higher click-through rates to the app download pages.
  • The website’s responsive design ensured users could view content across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
  • The simplified domain contributed to improved search engine visibility and easier word-of-mouth sharing.
